Arnold Bezuyen (Loge)

World-renowned tenor Arnold Bezuyen has captivated audiences around the globe with his exquisite voice, well-focused theatrical finesse and incomparable musicality. His vast repertoire includes a wide range of characters from Loge and Mime to Erik and Siegfried.

In the 2015/16 season, Mr. Bezuyen will perform as Hauptmann in Wozzeck at the Enesco Festival in Bucharest, Alfred in Die Fledermaus and Gregor in The Makropulos Case at Innsbruck and will travel to Tokyo giving concerts of songs by Richard Strauss. In recent seasons he has appeared as Loge in Das Rheingold under the baton of Marek Janowski in Tokyo, Arindal in Die Feen in Leipzig, Mr. Broucek in Janáček’s The Excursions of Mr. Broucek at Frankfurt Opera, Erik in Der fliegende Höllander at the National Theater Wiesbaden, Mime in Das Rheingold and Siegfried in Bucharest, and Siegfried in Götterdämmerung in Friedrichshafen. 

Arnold Bezuyen began his career at theaters in Augsburg and Bremen singing lyric roles such as Pinkerton and Rodolfo. In 1998 he made his Bayreuth debut performing Loge in Das Rheingold with James Levine and has appeared in the festival program every year through 2013. In 2011, he made his Metropolitan Opera debut as Loge in Das Rheingold. He has had great successes at many of the world’s leading opera houses, including at Covent Garden (David in Der Meistersinger von Nürnberg), Grand Teatro del Liceu (Shujsky in Boris Godunov), Deutsche Oper Berlin (Matteo in Arabella), La Scala, Teatro Petruzzelli (Jim Mahoney in Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny), Palermo Opera, Vienna Staatsoper (Alfred in Der Fledermaus), Hamburg State Opera (Števa in Jenůfa), Los Angeles Opera (Loge in the Ring Cycle), Opera de Bastille and Théâtre du Capitole, Toulouse (title role in the World Premiere of Phillippe Fénelon’s Faust).

Mr. Bezuyen has worked with many highly respected conductors, including: Pierre Boulez (Les Noces with the Orchestra de Paris), James Conlon, Sir Andrew Davies, Christoph Eschenbach, Adam Fischer, Marek Janowski, Julia Jones, Gustav Kuhn (as Loge in Das Rheingold at the Tiroler Festspiele Erl), James Levine, Fabio Luisi, Andris Nelsons, Seiji Ozawa, Antonio Pappano, Simon Rattle (The Seven Deadly Sins at the Osterfestspielen Salzburg), Christian Thielemann (as Loge in Das Rheingold at Bayreuth), and Jaap van Zweden.

A versatile singer on the stage, Arnold Bezuyen’s work in the concert hall is equally diverse and has taken him from Santiago de Compostela, to the Musikverein in Vienna, to Monte Carlo, Berlin, Amsterdam, Paris, amongst others. His extensive concert repertoire includes Mozart’s and Verdi’s Requiems, Mahler’s Das klagende Lied and Das Lied von der Erde, Zemlinsky’s King Kandaules, Stravinsky’s Les Noces, Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis and Symphony No. 9
